Services

  1. OPDs are conducted on working days except Sundays and Public Holidays. However, 24 hours emergency services are provided on all days.
  2. Routine O.P.D and Registration timings are from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m., O.P.D. Registration for new cases from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.
  3. Every patient seeking treatment at IPHB is registered and issued a card, indicating his/her name and registration number. Registration fee for Indian is Rs. 100/- whereas for foreign national is Rs. 250/-. For medico legal cases (e.g. prisoners brought by the police, patients referred with Magistrate Order and patients brought from Apna Ghar) is Nil.
  4. Select medicines are provided free of cost to patients attending the OPD.
  1. a)All patients needing hospitalization are admitted as per provisions of the Mental Health Act 2017.
  2. b)All medicines are provided free of cost to in-patients.
  3. c)Free diet is provided to all the patients admitted in the hospital.
  4. d) Visitors are allowed only at notified visiting hours i.e. 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. No male visitors are allowed to see female patients after 8.00 p.m. unless permitted by the doctor in charge.

  1. Rehabilitation services are provided to the inmates and outpatients in the form of Occupational Therapy.
  2. There are two separate male and female Occupational Therapy Units in IPHB. Working hours are : Morning session : 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Afternoon session : 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
  3. Daily schedule for Occupational Therapy unit is as follows: 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. :Morning prayers + Physical exercises / yoga 10.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. :Newspaper reading & discussion 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. :Activities of Daily living + skill Based training and recreational activities. 2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. :ADLS + Skill based training + Recreational activities.
  4. Inmates & Outpatients attending Female Occupational Therapy Unit are provided with various Vocational training activities like Art & Craft, hand embroidery, crochet, Flower making, Newspaper bag making, cloth bag & purse making, basic tailoring, chair canning, diya painting, soap flower making, gardening. IADL training & Recreational activities in the form indoor & outdoor games are also provided.
  5. Inmates & Outpatients attending Male Occupational Therapy unit are provided with Vocational training activities like Art & Craft, Newspaper bag making, basic carpentry, sea shell work, coconut shell & wood carving, chair canning & gardening. IADL training & Recreational activities in the form indoor & outdoor games are also provided.
  6. Additional services include Cognitive Remediation & Social Skill Training.
  7. Exhibition cum sale is organized during the Mental Health Week wherein items made by inmates are displayed for sale.
  8. Inmates are assessed with the work assessment scale and are paid remuneration in the form of Token Economy.

Specialized services are offered by doctors from Goa Medical College and Hospital, T. B. Chest Hospital, St. Inez and Goa Dental College, Bambolim as and when necessary through Liaison services. Institute of Psychiatry & Human Behaviour (IPHB) extends Liaison services to the patients from Goa Medical College, T B Chest Hospital and Goa Dental College as and when required.

  • Child and Adolescent clinic is conducted on every Monday and Thursday from 2.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. at IPHB.
  • De-addiction Clinic is conducted at IPHB on every Wednesday from 2.30 p.m. to 5.00p.m.
  • Memory Clinic every day from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. is conducted at IPHB.

Extension Clinics at the following places are attended by the IPHB doctors:

1. Homes of Provedoria 1st Tuesday & 4th Tuesday 2.30 p.m. -  5.00 p.m.
2. Urban Health Centre, St. Cruz 2nd  Tuesday & 4th Tuesday 2.30 p.m. -  5.00 p.m.
3. Modern Central Jail , Colvale 4th Friday 2.30 p.m. -  5.00 p.m.
4. Rural Health Training Centre, Mandur Every Tuesday 2.30 p.m. -  5.00 p.m.
5. Apna Ghar, Merces, Goa. Every  Tuesday 2.30 p.m. -  5.00 p.m.
6. Paediatric Department, Goa Medical College 1st & 3rd Tuesday 2.30 p.m. -  5.00 p.m.
  1. Laboratory timings are from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on Saturday and samples are accepted till 4.00 p.m. from Monday – Friday and 12.00 pm on Saturdays.
  2. Pathology and Biochemical investigations are conducted at the IPHB Laboratory.
  1. Emergency Services are attended round the clock on all days
  2. Doctors on duty are available round the clock.
  3. Patients are referred to specialist doctors of Goa Medical College, Goa Dental College and T B Chest Hospital as and when required.
  4. IPHB ambulance is used to shift patients to Goa Medical College, Goa Dental College and TB Chest Hospital, St. Inez.

IPHB is a tertiary care Psychiatric Hospital and provides quality psychiatric services to all patients who come to IPHB.
